Save Algonquin

In large part due to CPAWS Wildlands League, logging is now banned in all of Ontario's 631 protected areas, except one - Algonquin Park.  The park has more roads than Toronto's 5,300kms.  Despite a recommendation from the Ontario Parks Board to increase protection to 54%, only 22% is truly protected.

But there is movement.  Current Natural Resources Minister, Hon. Donna Cansfield, MPP, has asked the Parks Board and the Algonquin Forest Authority - which itself supports a protected area of 49% - to produce a joint report on how to reduce the footprint of logging in the park.  It's time we tell Premier McGuinty that an icon as Canadian as maple syrup must be preserved for all time.  Protection in Algonquin must be increased now.
